What this policy covers
This policy covers information handled through the Fence Calculator website as configured in this version of the project. It describes what data may be stored in your browser, what third-party services may receive technical requests when features are used, what happens if you contact the site by email, and what the site does not do. If the site changes materially in the future, the policy may also need to change so that it stays accurate.
The site is intentionally designed to minimize unnecessary data collection. There is no user registration flow, no paid subscription system, no public inbox form, and no built-in checkout. The main interactive features are the calculator itself, a map-based perimeter tool, PDF export, shareable URL hashes, a theme preference, and local page caching through a service worker on production deployments. Those features still create browser-side data behavior, so they are described clearly below.
Information stored locally in your browser
The site stores a theme preference in browser local storage so that dark mode or light mode can persist across visits. This value is used only to remember the display setting selected by the user or inferred from the device preference. It is not used to identify you personally and, by itself, it does not reveal who you are.
The site also uses URL hash parameters to preserve calculator state when you create or share an estimate link. These parameters can include fence length, unit, source mode, fence type, height, gate count, gate style, gate width, terrain, installation mode, and region. Because these values are stored in the URL fragment, they generally remain in the browser and are not sent to the server as part of the normal HTTP request path. That design is intentional: it lets users share a calculation state while reducing what has to pass through server logs.
On production deployments, the site may also use a service worker and browser cache storage to keep pages and assets available more efficiently. The service worker can cache same-origin pages, scripts, styles, and selected assets so that repeat visits are faster and more resilient. Cached files are stored locally on your device by the browser. On local development hosts, the site attempts to unregister the service worker and clear its own cache keys to avoid stale development behavior.
Information processed when you use site features
When you use the calculator, the calculation itself happens in your browser. The site updates material counts, budget ranges, chart output, preview graphics, and PDF export based on the values you enter. The calculator is designed to work client-side instead of requiring a server round-trip for each estimate change. The site also uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate page usage, traffic sources, device categories, and broad interaction patterns. Google Analytics receives browser and usage signals through Google's tag script; it is not used here to run user accounts, checkout, or a first-party project database.
If you use the map drawing mode, your browser loads Leaflet resources from jsDelivr and map tiles from OpenStreetMap tile servers. As with many mapping experiences, those third-party services may receive technical information such as your IP address, browser request headers, and the fact that a map tile or library file was requested. The site uses that map mode to help users estimate fence perimeter visually, but the external map resources are not controlled by Fence Calculator.
If you use the PDF export feature, your browser loads the jsPDF and html2canvas libraries from jsDelivr when needed. Those downloads happen in the browser at the time the feature is used. If you use the chart feature and Chart.js is not already loaded, your browser also requests the Chart.js library from jsDelivr. These are functional resource loads, not account-based services, but they still involve browser requests to a third-party CDN.
If you use the site clipboard actions, such as copying the material list or copying a share link, the copy action happens through the browser clipboard API after you click the control. The site does not maintain a first-party clipboard history after the copy action is completed.
Third-party services and technical resources
The site currently references third-party technical services including Google Fonts, jsDelivr-hosted JavaScript and CSS libraries, Google Analytics, and OpenStreetMap tile resources when the map mode is used. Depending on deployment, the hosting provider for the site may also maintain ordinary server logs that can include technical data such as IP address, request time, requested path, response status, and user agent string. Those logs are common to web hosting, but the exact retention and hosting setup can depend on the deployment environment.
Fence Calculator does not control the privacy practices of third-party platforms accessed through the browser. If you want to understand how Google Analytics, Google Fonts, jsDelivr, OpenStreetMap, or a specific hosting provider handle request data, you should review their own policies. This site can describe that those requests occur as part of the current feature set, but it cannot rewrite the policies of external services.
What the site does not currently do
In the current version of the site, Fence Calculator does not provide a public user account area, a first-party ad targeting system, a newsletter sign-up flow, a comment section, or a checkout form. The site runs Google Analytics for aggregate measurement, but it does not operate a first-party account or project-tracking database. That matters because many privacy pages say they collect far more than the site actually does. This policy is intended to stay closer to the real current implementation.
The site also does not ask you to enter project details into a fake support form. If you contact the site, the contact path is through direct email rather than an on-page submission form that silently stores form content. That does not eliminate privacy considerations, because email itself still carries personal information, but it keeps the site from pretending to have a first-party inbox workflow that it does not actually operate.
Email communication
If you email the site, the information you include in your message will be processed as part of handling your request. That can include your email address, subject line, message body, and any attachments you choose to send. Email is used to respond to support questions, review corrections, address accessibility issues, and handle legitimate business or editorial requests related to the site.
Because email is a direct communication channel, you should avoid sending sensitive personal or financial information unless it is truly necessary for the request. Most website issues do not require that. For example, a bug report usually only needs the page URL, browser, device type, and the problem you observed. A support question about the calculator rarely needs an exact home address, formal identification documents, or payment records.
Email messages may be retained for operational reasons, including follow-up, support history, abuse prevention, and recordkeeping around site corrections or business discussions. The site does not promise a fixed email retention period on this page because retention can vary with operational need, but incoming email is intended to be used for the site relationship it was sent for rather than as a disguised marketing list.
Your choices
You can stop using the site at any time. You can clear local browser storage, browser cache, and service worker data through your browser settings. You can also choose not to use map mode, not to use clipboard actions, and not to use the PDF export feature if you want to reduce interaction with browser APIs or third-party libraries. Because the site is largely client-side, many of these choices are controlled directly from your own browser environment.

Changes to this policy
If the site adds materially different features, such as user accounts, a direct submission form, a newsletter system, advertising personalization, or a first-party project database, this policy may need to change to stay accurate. The version published on this page is intended to describe the current site as it exists now, not an imaginary future version with features that are not live.
